Our Story
Since 1955, our Papa Billy has done more than refine an old tradition. He set a new standard in which is now a baseline in modern sports with his style of play, diet, and attention to preparation. He won on the PGA Tour 51 times including 3 Majors. He is the Greatest American Ryder Cup Team player with 23.5 points. It occurred to him before his first US Open victory to ask the Superintendent how to play a certain hole. He ended up laying up on a Par 3, chipping it close, and tapping in for Par. He won by listening to the Superintendent.
Before he went out on Mondays, he would stop by the Maintenance Sheds and bring his yardage book. We were always taught that the most important people in the game are the men and women who grow the grass.
Papa Billy had to combat allergies during his career that were triggered by the pesticides and fertilizers used on the golf courses during the 1950s and 1960s, so he turned to Dr. Randolph in Chicago who placed him on an organic based, natural foods diet. It consisted of fresh wild game meats like buffalo, elk, fish, fowl combined with organic fruits and vegetables. Using high quality ingredients make for the best foods, turfs, and overall soil health.
